Product Care

Our products are an investment in your home that we built to last a lifetime and even be passed on to family or friends. We stand behind the craftsmanship and quality that makes FOF Woodworks items both extremely functional and beautiful pieces our clients are proud to display and share.

Our pieces will undoubtedly build character over time with what we hope is frequent use, which is why we’d like to share a few tips to keep your items in their best condition for years to come.

Food Prep/Service Items

Every FOF Woodworks cutting board, charcuterie board, and serving tray is pre-conditioned for immediate use. This process involves bathing the item in food safe mineral oil until fully saturated - this is a crucial finishing task that will preserve your piece. Following this thorough process, a coat of FOF Woodworks Board Butter is applied and allowed to absorb for 24 hours before any residue is buffed clean - this not only gives your piece a gorgeous look and silky smooth feel, it provides protection against water damage over time and further preserves the sweet sweet mineral oil it has been soaked in.

Over time, the Board Butter coat will need to be replenished. We recommend every 3 months for an item that is used frequently, but this is not a firm rule. Use it as much as you need or want to. Simply rub a liberal coat of Board Butter on, let it sit overnight, and buff off any residue with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth.

Our Board Butter can be used to revive other wood products in your home. They will never be as nice as a FOF Woodworks piece, but, we understand. Please only use it on wood products, seriously. Keep it off your pets and small children. IF it gets on any pets or children, e-mail us pictures HERE.

Our products are built to last a lifetime. With that being said, here are some things to avoid doing with your FOF Woodworks products:

  • Submerging/soaking in water - instead, wash lightly with water and only as much soap as you need to clean the surface. Less car wash, more gentle rinsing.

  • Exposing your item to extended sunlight, or other outdoor conditions i.e. thunderstorms, hurricanes, tsunamis, blizzards, tornadoes. Think of your board much like a pale relative on the beach in Cancun. Don’t put sunscreen on it, just keep it inside. All the time. Unless you’re hosting a nice cookout, you can use your board outside for that.

  • Running your product over with a riding lawnmower. This advice is more for the sake of your lawnmower - our boards could be run over by a tank in the morning and display a wide array of meats and cheeses in the afternoon.

  • Launching your cutting board from a rooftop - your board will get hurt, but not nearly as badly as an unaware bystander on the ground.

This is a good list of suggestions, but it is not fully comprehensive. If you find yourself having any questions about caring for your FOF Woodworks products, please don’t hesitate to drop us a line HERE. If you have any questions about your lawnmower, we make no guarantees.
